Friends remember Ed Hitzel as full of life

Last Monday, Ed Hitzel did what was nearly a monthly ritual: He gathered four friends and headed to New York to his favorite steakhouse – Peter Luger’s, where they would order the biggest dry-aged steaks and finish the meal with schlag, homemade whipped cream that defies its simplicity with its utter deliciousness.

A life of family and work spent happily in Margate

Bernice Scarpa started in business as a girl, and she stayed busy in business until she was into her 80s. Her father was Jack Starkman, a co-founder of Atlantic City's Starkman Cigar Co., which expanded well beyond that name before the family sold the company in 1980.
